FAQs
How do you prepare for your first spray tan? Follow these tips for a flawless application.
Moisturize your skin everyday leading up to the day of your tan. Moisturized skin is best for spray tanning.
Get any Mani-pedis or facial treatments done BEFORE your tanning appointment.
The night before your tan: exfoliate using a gritty washcloth or exfoliating mitt. Avoid Dove body products, and oil-based products.
Do any shaving or waxing 24hrs before.
Arrive to your appointment with loose dark fitting clothing. Please have no products of any kind on your skin. Meaning no deodorant, lotion, makeup.
Prepare yourself for an effortless glow, and a pampering experience.
How does spray tanning work?
Spray tanning uses DHA (Dihydroxyacetone), a plant-derived ingredient from sugar beets and cane. When applied, DHA reacts with the amino acids in the top layer of your skin—a process called the Maillard reaction—to create a natural-looking tan that develops over several hours.
To ensure an even, long-lasting result, a pH-balancing spray is often applied before tanning. This helps prepare your skin by neutralizing any acidity, allowing the DHA to work more effectively for a smoother, more uniform tan.
Many tanning solutions include bronzers or dyes for instant color, but these are temporary and wash off. DHA itself is clear, so the real tan develops gradually beneath the surface, revealing your natural glow.
Can spray tanning affect fertility?
At Temple Tan, we believe in addressing the questions that matter most to you. One common inquiry is whether spray tanning affects fertility. Let’s break it down.
The Endocrine System controls our hormones, and certain spray tanning ingredients—such as fragrances, phthalates, and parabens—have been linked to hormone disruption. Since hormonal imbalances can impact fertility, it’s important to choose your tanning products wisely.
At Temple Tan, we only use solutions free from known Endocrine Disruptors (EDCs). Our products are clean, dye-free, and safe for sensitive skin, including during pregnancy. You deserve a glow that’s as healthy as it is beautiful.
Is spray tanning safe?
The safety of spray tanning depends on several factors, including the aerosolization of tanning solutions and the ingredients used. When tanning solutions are sprayed, both the client and artist may inhale the ingredients, raising concerns about potential toxicity and harm. Many solutions contain ingredients that aren’t safe for aerosolization, making ingredient transparency crucial.
As a consumer, it’s essential to ask for the ingredient list before your session. Be mindful of fragrances, parabens, phthalates, FD&C dyes, and other chemicals. Using apps to scan ingredients can help you make informed decisions.
At Temple Tan, we use the safest, cleanest spray tanning solutions available, including food-based bronzers, which are carefully selected for safety. We are committed to following all FDA guidelines, including providing protective measures like undergarments, lip balm, and nose filters to ensure your safety.
